Ruperra Castle is a Grade I Listed Scheduled Ancient Monument situated just to the northeast of Cardiff. Its ruined state is due to a devastating fire during the second world war. After years of total neglect it has suffered the complete collapse of the south east tower and has serious structural cracks in another two towers. The current owner has placed the castle with its 15 acres and auxiliary buildings up for sale for a whopping 1.5 million pounds, after being refused planning permission to build a housing estate within the grounds. But after many years on the market, it sadly has not attracted a buyer.
Will anyone make the huge decision to take on a project as big as this? Or is the 1.5million asking price just too high? This project is not for the faint hearted. A restoration project would be a full time job as well as a colossal money pit.
But let’s hope that some thing gets done. I will stand in awe of whoever decides to take on this project, good luck to them.
